The following quotes are from today's UFC 155 WEIGH-IN ON FUEL TV for UFC 155: DOS SANTOS VS. VELASQUEZ II. The show was hosted by Jon Anik, with Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion Daniel Cormier and UFC TONIGHT's Kenny Florian offering analysis. Two-time MMA Journalist of the Year Ariel Helwani conducted fighter interviews on-site.
UFC 155 WEIGH-IN ON FUEL TV Reporter Ariel Helwani asks Junior Dos Santos if he was surprised he was booed at the weigh-ins: "A little bit. We have a lot of Mexicans here, but I know we have a lot of Brazilians here too, and we'll have half and half."
Dos Santos on Velasquez putting his fist in his face at the weigh-in: "I think he'd like to show me he's very well prepared. That's what I do and not what he does."
Dos Santos on what he has to prove with this fight: "I have nothing to prove. I have to prove for myself how hard I worked to be the champion. I'm very well prepared. For sure I'm going to get the victory."
Dos Santos on how the fight will finish: "One more knockout. It's going to be like Cain likes to go to the ground and the fight will end there. If he gives me the chance, it'll be quicker than last time."
Dos Santos on if he's worried that Velasquez will try to take him down: "He'll try to take me down right away and I'm very well prepared and have good take down defense and I'll knock him out right away."
Helwani asks Velasquez on why he got in Dos Santos' face during weigh-ins: "To let him know I am coming after him. If someone puts a fist in my face, I am going to do it right back to him. That is my mentality."
Velasquez on his training camp experience and being in top shape for this fight: "I think it's experience - knowing that going into training camp and having a hard week, you know your body is breaking down, so instead of pushing forward, take a few steps back and relax. Then the next day you come in, you feel refreshed and you perform better, rather than breaking your body down. That is the one thing I learned."
Velasquez on how the fight will end: "I have envisioned it so many different ways - a knockout, TKO, submission, a five-round grueling fight - but every time with my hand raised."
UFC 155 WEIGH-IN ON FUEL TV Analyst Kenny Florian on Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II: "Junior Dos Santos is regarded as the premiere striker in the heavyweight division. Everyone talks about his speed, his athleticism, but what is most impressive to me is his range and his foot work. He is always in an impeccable position to knock you out."
UFC 155 WEIGH-IN ON FUEL TV Analyst Daniel Cormier on Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II: "Velasquez has to simplify his fight. He needs to close the distance, take Junior down, put him on his back and control him there."
Florian on if Dos Santos has more confidence now than their first fight: "Absolutely. We can't forget he came in as challenger in the last fight. Cain was the champion. Cain was injured and Junior was fighting injured in that fight as well. He came in and beat the champ in convincing fashion."
Cormier on Velasquez being injured in the last fight: "Junior was hurt too in that fight. For this guy to go out and beat Cain and Frank Mir in convincing fashion really shows how good he is."
Florian on if Velasquez' ground game can be a factor in the fight: "It could be. Dos Santos has spent a total of 20 seconds on the ground in the Octagon. We haven't seen him on his back. It could be motivating for Cain."
Cormier on Velasquez taking the fight to the ground: "Cain is smart guy. He's not going to stand in front of Junior and get knocked out again. I think he'll take him down. I'll be yelling at him from the corner to take him down. We'll want to see what Junior can do on the ground."
Florian what Velasquez needs to do to win: "The key is going to have to be with his reactive takedowns. You have to take Junior Dos Santos down as he comes forward. If he is backing up, you attack him with strikes. That is the recipe I believe for Cain to be the champ."
Cormier on what Velasquez needs to do to win: "Cain has to be Cain. He has to go forward, get his hands on him, take him down and grind on him. Velasquez is the best at doing that and when he does, he gets his hand raised."
Helwani on Dos Santos: "He recently received his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, making him the third fighter in UFC history to have the heavyweight championship and BJJ black belt at the very same time."
Florian on how Dos Santos and Velasquez looked: "Cain came in nine pounds lighter than the first time these guys met. He looked lean, ready, focused and he looked right into the eyes of Dos Santos. Dos Santos is also in the best shape I have ever seen him."
Florian's predications on Dos Santos vs. Velasquez: "I picked Cain in the first fight, but have to go with Dos Santos. No one has been able to solve that range. He has better range than anyone in the UFC."
Cormier's predications on Dos Santos vs. Velasquez: "Cain Velasquez is my training partner. I know how much work this guy has put in. He deserves it. He is going to go out there, do what he is supposed to do and become the UFC Champion for the second time."
Joe Lauzon on what he had to change in his camp when Jim Miller replaced Gray Maynard: "I had to change up all my training partners. I had to change from all righties to all lefties. It was a little bit of a pain mid my camp, but that's the way it goes. He was easier for me to change to lefties."
Miller on if he was ready to take the fight: "I was a little out of shape, but I am a professional. Losing the weight and getting into fight shape in six weeks was easy for me. I came in and tried to sharpen up."
Lauzon on fighting Miller: "We trained really hard. As long as I keep myself calm, and remind myself to breathe, I don't think it will be a problem."
Florian on Joe Lauzon: "Joe Lauzon is one of the best finishers in the UFC. That is his style. Look for him to really go for the finish right from the opening bell."
Miller on what it will take to win: "Be the better man tomorrow night. We are both aggressive fighters with similar styles and neither of us wants to go to the final bell and have the judges score the decision. Being on my game and being sharp. Joe is the task ahead of me and the dangerous man I am about to get locked inside the cage with."
Cormier on Miller: "Miller is guy who reminds me of an Iowa wrestler. He gets after you with a lot of pace, takes you down, and grinds on you. Jim started as a wrestler and he is going to continue that tomorrow night - just wrestling."
Cormier on Tim Boetsch vs. Costa Philippou: "Costa Philippou is great at standup boxing, and he's been working on wrestling a lot lately. With Tim, he knows he's going to take him down. Tim Boetsch is a guy who has finished fights on his feet as well."
Helwani on Costa Philippou: "A former professional boxer, Philippou lost his TUF 11 try-out match and his Octagon debut, however, he has since rebounded to win his last four fights in a row."
Florian on Yushin Okami vs. Alan Belcher: "Yushin Okami is one of the most consistent guys in the middleweight division. He's a southpaw and knows how to use it. Alan Belcher is one of the trickiest strikers out there. And in his last fight against Rousimar Palhares, one of the toughest submission guys, he went counter to counter with Palhares and even submitted him."
Cormier on Alan Belcher: "He's totally changed himself. He has a lot of confidence now, and by submitting Palhares, he cemented himself in the title picture in the division."
Florian on Alan Belcher: "Alan Belcher is a top contender in the 185 pound division, despite the injuries throughout his career. This is his first time since 2009 that he will fight twice in a year. He is looking to make a huge statement against Okami. He feels he has been overlooked as a top contender. Look for him to make a huge statement."
Helwani on Yushin Okami: "Yushin Okami scored a unanimous decision win over Belcher back in August 2006, but he said he paid no attention to that fight when preparing for this one, as he believes Alan Belcher is a vastly improved fighter."
Florian Varner vs. Guillard: "Guillard looked very fired up. I know he has been having personal problems, but he looks great. He said this was the easiest weight cut he has ever had."
Helwani on Derek Brunson: "Derek Brunson is the first Strikeforce fighter to come over to the UFC since it was announced that Strikeforce would be ceasing operations next month. He is also a three-time division two collegiate wrestler, but most impressively, a former high school cheerleader champion."
Florian on Brad Pickett: "Brad Pickett has fighting lineage in his blood. His grandfather was a bear knuckle boxer in England and as an ode him, you will see him walk out with suspenders and a fedora hat on Saturday night. Pickett can really do it all, but watch out for his knockout power."
Helwani on Erik Perez: "Erik Perez, who holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history, is wearing a luchador mask, in honor of his native Mexico. In fact, the mask was made specifically or him, by the most famous mask maker in all of Mexico."
Cormier on Melvin Guillard: "I have known Melvin Guillard since he was 14, when I got to coach him on the Louisiana National Wrestling team. The story never changes with this guy. No mistakes equals victory. If he sticks with his game plan, he will be ok for Saturday night."
Helwani on Jamie Varner: "The Nevada state fighting commission refused to allow Varner to fight Gillard just two weeks ago here in Las Vegas, as he was vomiting profusely backstage. He told me he was ready to take the fight, but he just couldn't get the clearance."
Cormier on Michael Johnson: "Michael Johnson was a finalist on season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter. I had the opportunity to coach against him on team Koscheck. The improvement this kid makes fight after fight is unbelievable. And as Michael told me, we can expect to see an even better version of him when he steps into the cage on Saturday night."
Cormier on Todd Duffee: "Todd Duffee has the reputation for being mentally weak. As Todd told me recently, he has never had mental problems, he just has never had a team like he has at the American Kickboxing Academy that stand behind him and support him. Those together make Todd a dangerous man."
