July 8, 2008 - Publisher Ubisoft has acquired the Montreal-based visual effects studio, Hybride Technologies. The studio previously worked on feature films such as 300, Sin City, and the Spy Kids movies, but will now work closely with Ubisoft to develop videogame tools that will rival movie special effects.

Even though Hybride Technologies will work on optimizations and effects for videogames, the company will continue to work with its film partners. Much like Ubisoft's Tom Clancy license acquisition, the publisher hopes that Hybride Technologies will add to the company's vision of creating brands that captivate audiences. "The exceptional quality of the team at Hybride and the expertise of our Ubisoft teams will allow us to create one of the best 3D animation studios in the entertainment industry," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

To get a sample of what you can expect to see out of the acquisition, check out a Hybride Technologies visual montage on Ubisoft's official site.
