UFC and PRIDE veteran Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg won what he claims to be his final appearance at 185 pounds on Saturday night.
Trigg (19-6) defeated Danny Babcock (5-2) by decision at the Xtreme Cagefighting Federation's Rumble in Racetown card. Trigg moves to a four-fight win streak since losing his ICON Sport middleweight title to Robbie Lawler in 2007. Along with Babcock, Trigg recently defeated TUF 4 competitor Edwin Dewees, PRIDE's Welterweight Grand Prix champion Kazuo Misaki, and the always game Falaniko Vitale.
Trigg's most notable appearances at welterweight, where he plans to return, have come in the form of losses to former UFC champion Matt Hughes and current UFC champion Georges St. Pierre. Despite the notable losses, he has proven to be a title contender in the division with wins over Renato “Charuto” Verissimo and Ronald Jhun.
Under the main event UFC veteran Terry Martin (18-7) lost a split decision to undefeated (9-0) Zak Cummings. The first round was back and forth, but Cummings easily took round two, mounting Martin and almost finishing the bout with a rear naked choke. Round three saw Martin work some takedowns, but fight with little effect. Martin has lost two-straight and three of his last five bouts.
TUF reject Jesse Taylor (9-3) picked up an easy submission victory over Gert Kocani (1-1). Taylor took Kocani down and worked ground and pound while defending armbars and triangles, but was able to lock in a rear naked choke with fifteen seconds remaining in round two. Taylor has won three in a row since leaving the UFC with a loss to CB Dollaway in July, including an October win over Drew Fickett.
Former NFL lineman Marcus Jones (4-2) defeated John Juarez by knockout in ninety-nine seconds. Jones was a first round draft pick out of the University of North Carolina and played his entire career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which included a Super Bowl championship in 2003.
Jones clinched up with Juarez and was able to cut his opponent early, but found himself staggered soon after. As Juarez came forward Jones landed a two-punch combination to swing things in his favor and finish the bout.
