Guillard came into the fight following a suspension after testing positive for cocaine, while Clementi entered the fight on a three-fight win streak. The bout was moderately entertaining as Guillard looked for the one-punch knockout and Clementi took his time. Clementi eventually got the fight to the ground and secured Guillard's back, forcing him to tap out due to a rear naked choke with only twenty seconds remaining in round one.
The next bout featured UFC light heavyweight contender Lyoto Machida against rising superstar Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. Sokoudjou entered the bout with a lot of hype after having knocked out Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona in PRIDE. Machida entered the bout undefeated with a record of eleven wins - including wins over Rich Franklin, B.J. Penn, Stephan Bonnar, Kazuhiro Nakamura, and Vernon "Tiger" White. The fight was rather dull, with not much action striking and a lot of clinching. In the first round Sokoudjou tripped Machida, but was immediately swept and worked from his back from then on. In round two more of the same as the fight went to the ground, except this time Machida secured dominant position and finished the fight with an arm-triangle choke .
In the second Team Quest defeat of the night, Eddie Sanchez stopped Soa Palelei in the third round with strikes. Palelei entered the fight coming off a five second knockout in October, but he didn't show much striking prowess against Sanchez. The fight featured Sanchez landing combinations and uppercuts at will in between boring clinching. During the third round referee Mario Yamasaki ultimately stepped in to call a stop to action.
In the most anticipated bout in all of mixed martial arts, former champions Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva put on a show that lived up to the hype. Both traded bombs, each winning exchanges. The first round went to Liddell after rocking the Brazilian fighter a couple times. Round two started different however, with Silva winning a majority of the exchanges and even knocking Liddell down once. At the end of the round though, Liddell opened up on Silva and scored a last second takedown. Round three was all Liddell as he scored an opening takedown. Liddell landed bombs throughout the round, but Silva remained on this feet. In the end of the round Liddell scored another takedown to secure the fight, winning a unanimous decision.
Following Matt Serra's injury, Georges St. Pierre stepped up to fight Matt Hughes on one month's notice. Unlike the second fight between the two, where GSP controlled the stand-up until he knocked out Hughes, St. Pierre instead chose to take Hughes down and punish the former champion with ground and pound. St. Pierre took the highly-touted wrestler down at will and remained on top, striking Hughes and working for position. After a dominant first round, St. Pierre chose to repeat, taking Hughes down. Hughes, unable to score a takedown himself, remained on the bottom for the remainder of the round until St. Pierre secured an armbar and the submission victory.
