Two Bouts Added to UFC 81

Postby NWOWolfpack » Wed Nov 28, 2007 6:49 pm

Thanks to http://www.nokaut.com

Nokaut.com has learned that two additional bouts have been added to the February 2nd UFC 81 card, which will feature the UFC debut of Brock Lesnar against former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

Middleweight stand-outs Thales Leites and Nathan Marquardt will face off.

Leites (12-1) is on a three-fight win streak since losing his UFC debut to MArtin Kampmann last year. He has defeated The Ultimate Fighter 4's Pete Sell, Floyd Sword, then as a late-replacement Ryan Jensen. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist also holds wins over Jose Landi-Jons, Ronald Jhun, and Gustavo Machado.

Marquardt (25-7-2) is coming off a middleweight championship loss to reigning UFC champion Anderson Silva at UFC 73. Before the loss Marquardt was on an impressive run, winning six in a row including wins over Dean Lister, Crafton Wallace, Ivan Salaverry, Joe Doerksen, and Kazuo Misaki. The former King of Pancrase holds additional wins over Yves Edwards, The Ultimate Fighter 4's Shonie Carter, and a second win over PRIDE's 2006 Welterweight Grand Prix champion Kazuo Misaki.

The other bout added will feature David Heath against the undefeated IFL veteran Andre Gusmao.

Heath (7-2) is on a two-fight losing streak, losing a decison to still-undefeated Lyoto Machida, and by submission to Renato "Babalu" Sobral. In his last fight against "Babalu", Heath was dominated until he was caught in an anaconda choke. After tapping out Sobral refused to release the hold until Heath lost consciousness. Sobral was subsequently kicked out of the UFC and fined heavily. Heath holds a win over Sean Salmon, as well as two wins in the UFC over Cory Walmsley and Victor Valimaki.

Gusmao (5-0) is coming off four straight IFL victories, including two stoppages over Mike Ciesnolevicz and a decision over Brent Beauparlant. Gusmao fought as part of Renzo Gracie's Pitbulls. He has only gone to decision once and has three TKO's and one submission.

The fight that I am looking forward to so far is still Lesnar/Mir.

Apparently Gusmao/Heath isn't happening now. The UFC was strung along or something while Gusmao is going to be caught up in the IFL for another year.
