The numbers are in for WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz. The Ohio Athletic Commission says that the event, held at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, drew “a little over 8,700 in attendance” for gate revenue of $401,000.
In comparison, WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson, drew over 10,000 fans for a gate of $550,000 in Sacramento, Calif.
WEC 47 was the promotion’s debut event in Ohio. The event was successful enough for WEC general manager Reed Harris to say that if the Arnold Fitness Classic weekend slot is open again next year, he would like to return.
Dominick Cruz claimed his stake as the number one bantamweight fighter in the world, knocking off Brian Bowles and taking his title in the WEC 47 main event.
