UFC SET TO RETURN TO LONDON ON 16th FEBRUARY 2013 AT WEMBLEY ARENA

The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization has announced that it will return to England’s capital on Saturday 16th February, 2013.

The event will be the fifth time the UFC has come to London since its conception in 1993, the first being back in July 2002 with UFC 38: Brawl at the Hall which was held at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Since that first event, there have been four events held at the 02 Arena, most recently with sell-out crowds to see UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama. This will be the first time the UFC® has ever brought a show to Wembley Arena, the iconic London venue that holds in excess of 10,000 people.

“The UFC has seen significant international growth with nearly a third of all the live events now held outside the USA. London is one of the world’s major capital cities and is a fitting host to kick off 2013 for the first of three European events taking place this year,” commented UFC’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA, Garry Cook. “We work hard in Europe to keep UFC at the leading edge of MMA and as always our show will not disappoint our loyal followers.”

Wembley Arena is the capital’s second-largest arena, located opposite the legendary Wembley Stadium, home to England’s football team. The arena has had a vast range of renowned acts grace its stage, including everyone from The Beatles to the Spice Girls, The Rolling Stones to Beyoncé. In 2013 the UFC will sit alongside other great sporting events, such as the 1948 and 2012 Summer Olympics, hosted at the arena.

Nice to see Edwards back.

Young phenom Gunnar Nelson will look to move to 2-0 inside the Octagon when he faces Justin Edwards at the UFC’s return to England on Feb 23.

UFC officials announced the bout on Thursday.

A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under legendary coach and trainer Renzo Gracie, Gunnar Nelson debuted with the UFC back in September and quickly dispatched of DeMarques Johnson by rear naked choke.

Now Nelson looks to lock up another win as he goes back to England, facing former Ultimate Fighter competitor Justin Edwards.

Bouncing back and forth between wins and lossed, Ohio’s Justin Edwards will try to put together two wins in a row when he faces Nelson in February.

Edwards made quick work of Josh Neer in October, putting him away by submission early in the first round, and now he’ll try to stop the hype train running behind Gunnar Nelson.

UFC on Fuel 7 will take place in London, England on Feb 23 with a bantamweight title fight between Renan Barao and Michael McDonald leading the way.

A middleweight bout between Tom Watson (15-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Stanislav Nedkov (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is the latest addition to February's UFC on FUEL TV 7 card.

UFC officials recently announced the bout.

UFC on FUEL TV 7 takes place Feb. 16 at London's Wembley Arena. The main card airs on FUEL TV following prelims on Facebook.

It's not clear where Watson vs. Nedkov will be placed on the card.

Watson, a former BAMMA champion, signed with the UFC earlier this year after an 11-1 run that included victories over John Maguire, Matt Horwich and Murilo "Ninja" Rua. However, in his promotional debut, he suffered a narrow split-decision loss to Brad Tavares at UFC on FUEL TV 5.

He looks to get back on track against Nedkov, who began his career with a 12-0 mark, which included a TKO win over Luiz Cane in his UFC debut. Nedkov, who drops from light heavyweight to middleweight for this latest bout, then suffered a submission loss to Thiago Silva at UFC on FUEL TV 6. But the November bout overturned the fight and declared it a no-contest after Silva tested positive for marijuana metabolites.

With the addition to the card, the UFC on FUEL TV 7 lineup now includes:

Renan Barao vs. Michael McDonald - for interim bantamweight title
Dennis Siver vs. Cub Swanson
Che Mills vs. Matthew Riddle
Ryan Jimmo vs. James Te Huna
Terry Etim vs. Renee Forte
Stanislav Nedkov vs. Tom Watson
Danny Castillo vs. Paul Sass
Ulysses Gomez vs. Phil Harris
Vaughan Lee vs. Motonobu Tezuka
Josh Grispi vs. Andy Ogle
Cyrille Diabate vs. Jimi Manuwa
Justin Edwards vs. Gunnar Nelson

A Russian-born German is out and an American with a French name is in for the UK's upcoming show. Dennis Siver has suffered an injury and been forced out of the co-main event against Cub Swanson. But fans of exciting featherweight bouts will not be left hanging, as the dynamic and dangerous Dustin Poirier has verbally agreed to step in to fight Swanson.
