The event dubbed “Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2013″ is scheduled to take place on New Year’s Eve at the Ryogoku Kokugikanin in Tokyo, Japan.
Cost of the event will be around $17/£10.
Headlining the show will be Satoshi Ishii (10-2-1) who’s been on a great run of wins as of late – six to be precise. The Olympic Gold medalist has mixed it up with the likes of Tim Sylvia, Jeff Monson, Paulo Filho and Sean McCorkle throughout his young career. The 27-year-old has only dropped bouts to Mixed Martial Arts legend Fedor Emelianenko & fellow Judokan Hidehiko Yoshida.
Standing across from the Japanese prospect will be Kazuyuki Fujita (15-9) who makes a return to Mixed Martial Arts following a four year hiatus from the sport. This will be Fujita’s first fight back since being brutally knocked out by Alistair Overeem. Fujita will be stepping back into the ring on a 3-fight losing streak dropping bouts to the aforementioned Alistair Overeem, Blagoi Ivanov and Travis Wiuff. Kazuyuki comes into the match-up a giant underdog and rightly so, as the 43-year-old hasn’t tasted victory since 2008.
In the co-main of the evening Ikuhisa “Minowaman” Minowa (57-35-8) aims to build momentum coming off his knockout win over Hoon Kim earlier this year at ROAD FC. With one hundred fights under his belt, the veteran comes in a sizeable favorite.
Professional wrestler Atsushi Sawada makes his Mixed Martial Arts debut. Prior to the bout, Sawada was scheduled to cross the pond and fight Luis Fernando Miranda at Brazil’s Jungle Fight 58, but after not showing up to the weigh-ins the bout was cancelled.
ONE FC Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki (34-6) moves back to 155 lbs after defeating Cody Stevens in his Featherweight debut under the ONE FC banner. The fan favorite comes in riding a 4-fight win streak, since getting shut down at the hands of Bellator veteran Eddie Alvarez at the beginning of last year.
Former Gladiator Lightweight Champion Toshikatsu Harada (11-9-2) or as he likes to be called “TOSHI” will be the man looking to pull off the upset. The 31-year-olds last outing came against Isamu Sugiuchi in which the Champion was forced to tap via Submission (Armbar) back in September. And prior to that he fought both Shigenobu Takahashi & Jonathan Gary to a Draw. Harada’s last win came at the turn of the year when he stopped Akinori Iwamoto via TKO.
A pair of Heavyweights get set to collide, as Brett Rogers (14-5) looks to end the year with a perfect 3-0 record. The Strikeforce alumni began his career in Mixed Martial Arts stopping his first ten opponents, including former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski. Since then, Rogers has dropped bouts to Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem, Josh Barnett, Eddie Sanchez and Alexander Volkov.
UFC veteran Phil De Fries ( 9-3) was axed by his promotion earlier this year after posting a 2-3 record. De Fries looks to get back on track after fallen to Matt Mitrione & Todd Duffee. This will be his first fight back since being released from the UFC.
Kicking things off will be DEEP Lightweight Champion Satoru Kitaoka (32-12-9) who after losing to Will Brooks has now gone 2-0 this year. Known to be one of Asia’s best grapplers, the “Catch Wrestling Koala Bear” aims to keep his win streak alive and notch up another submission to his already impressive resume.
Russia’s native son Ramazan Esenbaev (5-1) tries to steal the show, and make a name for himself on New Year’s Eve. The 24-year-old M-1 veteran looks to close out 2013 without any blemishes on his record having defeated Daniel Madrid & Juan Manuel Suarez this year. A win over Kitaoka would be huge for Ramazan’s short career.
