MFC 41: All In - Fight Card Updates
Campbell versus Spratt Among Additions to MFC 41 on Oct. 3
A clash of explosive strikers has been added to the packed lineup for the Maximum Fighting Championship's MFC 41: All In taking place on Friday, October 3 in Edmonton, Alberta. Hometown hero Shane "Shaolin" Campbell (9-2) will get the toughest test of his career when he takes on 15-year mixed martial arts veteran Pete "The Secret Weapon" Spratt (25-23) in a welterweight contest that will be part of the main card airing live on AXS TV Fights.
"It's a classic encounter of the young lion trying to take out the old lion to see who will control the pride," said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. "Shane and Pete have such similar styles yet there is obviously a huge difference in experience which makes it a very interesting matchup."
Kickboxing specialist Campbell has won five of his last six fights including his organizational debut at MFC 40 when he stopped Jerrid Burke with a second-round TKO. A notorious striker with K-1 experience, Campbell has gradually developed a submission game recently and notched back-to-back victories via tapout in 2012. Campbell's two biggest wins to date have come against Stephen Beaumont and Derek Boyle.
A true gentleman of the sport, Spratt will be making his record-setting 14th appearance on AXS TV Fights along with his seventh inside the MFC ring where he has gone 3-3 so far.
"I am very excited to be back in the MFC fighting against such a young gun as Campbell," stated Spratt.
Spratt, who fights out of San Antonio, Texas, has been sensational in victory during his MFC run beginning with his spectacular uppercut KO of Nathan Gunn at MFC 22. Spratt, who boasts 13 knockout wins on his resume, then followed with a TKO of Luigi Fioravanti at MFC 25. He picked up the ninth submission win of his lengthy career at MFC 29 securing an armbar against Demi Deeds.
Spratt has faced numerous notables in his career including such names as Georges St. Pierre, Carlos Newton, and Robbie Lawler. While Spratt may be in the twilight of his fighting career, that doesn't mean he will be passing the torch to Campbell without a fight.
"Mark Pavelich and the MFC has provided me with a great opportunity," he said. "I saw Campbell's last fight and was not great impressed. He is tough and has some tricky elbow but there's nothing spectacular."
Five of the six main card fights are now set for MFC 41:
Anthony Birchak (c) vs. Jesse Brock – MFC bantamweight title
Tom Gallicchio (c) vs. Marcus Edwards – MFC lightweight title
Andrew McInnes vs. Jacob Volkmann – lightweight
Shane Campbell vs. Pete Spratt – welterweight
Jared McComb vs. Miles Anstead – middleweight
'POWER OF PINK' RETURNS: With MFC 41 taking place in the month of October, the Maximum Fighting Championship will once again recognize breast cancer awareness with the return of the "Power of Pink" Initiative. The MFC will wrap the ring ropes in pink tape as opposed to the usual white, and the MFC's pink ribbon logo will be on the ring mat. MFC staff will also be wearing pink accessories such as neckties during fight night and fighters will be encouraged to have pink on their walkout apparel and sponsorship banners. This will be the third "Power of Pink" after previously appearing at MFC 35 and 38.
