Was EliteXC-CBS good for MMA?
I have to say that it was good for attracting new fans. That said, any new fans that tuned into that and decide to order UFC 85 will be in shock! The UFC 85 card has been changed more than a newborn babie's diapers but the quality and skill level of the fighters on that card will make EliteXC-CBS Saturday Night Fights look like the original Gladiator movie starring some nobody and Cuba Gooding Jr. vs. Raging Bull with Robert Di Nero.
Many critics across the MMA community have called 'fraud' or 'fixed' or why in the hell is the 'NYBA' Phil Baroni wearing a Hulk Hogan shirt? (Baroni ripped off his shirt prior to the match alla the 'Hulkster'). From JT's cauliflower ear to the Smith - Lawler Stoppage to the overweight Carano winning by doctor's stoppage to the no tap or thumbs up by Kimbo.
Was it a good day and event for MMA?
Most sportscasters were be-littleting the sport last week - pre event. Now they have a reason. Like or dislike the UFC and Dana White, 95% of the time they put a card on PPV or Spike TV that showcases the talent and workmanship that it takes to succeed in mixed martial arts. As several sportscasters pointed out - EliteXC-CBS was a like watching the Yankees one weekend and then watching the Columbus Clippers from AAA baseball the next weekend.
Still, the early ratings numbers have shown that a lot of people did tune in to see the sport that will push Boxing out of the lime-light permanently. Great news for the fans that have followed MMA since its inception and have seen MMA go from some lonely caveman to the fastest growing sport in the world with some of the best athletes ever dawning five ounce gloves.
Like I said, my vote was NO. Gary Shaw, EliteXC, Showtime and CBS have the opportunity to bring new fans (because hardcore fans already know what is needed) a glimpse of the future of MMA. They need to have more match-ups like Lawler vs. Scott. A Main Event that doesn't consist of a KIMBO vs. THOMPSON.

WTF? I cannot believe that I am the only one to notice. Elite-XC was scheduled on every CBS network for a 2 hour time slot. The program following EXC-CBS was the local news broadcast in every area. The Kimbo v Thompson fight started after the 2 hour time slot ended and ran over by something like 24 minutes.
EliteXC had great ratings with about 4.5 million viewers for the show.......Across the USA, almost 2 million people tuned in for their regular scheduled news when Kimbo was fighting Thompson. Hence 6.5!!
Instead of BLOWING UP the numbers........they should have just stuck with 4.5 which was a success.

DAMN RAINMAN, That was alot of math!!
I think it was great for the sport!!Even the "FAG YUPPIES" that lie and act scared because they seen a little blood deep down inside loved it!! Everyone wishes they had the balls to do what these guys do, weather it be in the ring at the bar or to their boss at work while he's barking orders!! For alot of people watching this sport is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and for the first time viewers Im sure they will find themselves tuning in to the next event even if they gotta lie about it to the "FAG YUPPIES" the next day at work!!!
JUST SAYIN!!
