Aleks has Hepatitis B? *Update*

Postby keithlewis » Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:23 pm

According to MMANews.com:

A source close to the situation spoke to MMANews.com’s Michael Moody on a condition of anonymity and explained that the blood tests came back right before Aleks and Buentello were scheduled to weigh in and that is why there was so much confusion around the stage and why the fighters did not weigh in. Gary Goodridge ended up stepping up on extremely short notice and filling in for the Russian heavyweight.

The tests were positive for Hepatitis B which resulted in the CSAC cancelling the fight. Hep B is the result of transmission from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids containing blood.

Hepatitis B:

Hepatitis B virus infects the liver of hominoidae, including humans, and causes an inflammation called hepatitis. It is a DNA virus and one of many unrelated viruses that cause viral hepatitis. The disease was originally known as "serum hepatitis" and has caused epidemics in parts of Asia and Africa. Hepatitis B is endemic in China and various other parts of Asia. The proportion of the world's population currently infected with the virus is estimated at 3 to 6%, but up to a third have been exposed. Symptoms of the acute illness caused by the virus include liver inflammation, vomiting, jaundice, and rarely, death. Chronic hepatitis B may eventually cause liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, a fatal disease with very poor response to current chemotherapy. The infection is preventable by vaccination.

This would be horrible news for his career!

Should end his career, but who knows - he'll probably keep fighting where there is lax regulation.

... from what I've heard, no... hep c would because it is not curable but hep b can be treated... as a virus I don't know if you can get rid of it but it can be in a diminished state...

... thanks for the info on this... I was really wondering...

... makes sense... he was physically fit to fight up to the weigh-in and they don't usually withold info if its failed drug test... only actual info released was he was not medically fit to fight... what else could it be?... not too many things... I don't think they would not disclose an injury...

THIS IS WHY THIS STORY NEVER MADE IT TO OUR FRONT PAGE!!

THX - Propel!!

Days after Aleksander Emelianenko was forced to withdraw from Affliction: Banned due what the CSAC termed as "failing to meet all licensing requirements", heavy rumors persisted that Emelianenko had contracted hepatitis B and could possibly be forced into early retirement.

Aleksander spoke out today about the real reasons behind his dismissal from Affliction's inaugural event and addressed rumored health concerns in an interview with Life.ru
Below is a brief description of the interview:

In the video interview with life.ru Aleks claims that he was simply late. He says there is absolutely nothing wrong with him physically.

He says that according to the CSAC he was supposed to be tested on 13th. He only received a visa on 14th and came to US on 15th. He was hoping that they would be able to still work everything out - but apparently the CSAC is very strict on everything.

Special thanks to Stripthesoul for the translation.
What do you expect? The comedian is dead.
