UFC Fight Night 33: Hunt vs Bigfoot Announced
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today it will make its first visit to Queensland’s capital as Brisbane hosts UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on December 7. Tickets for the five-round main event between heavyweights Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva go on sale to the general public on Thursday, October 10 at 9 a.m. AEST.
“Our long term commitment is to bring our sport, our athletes and our brand to as many cities across Australia as possible,” said Tom Wright, UFC Director of Operations in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. “Brisbane will represent the third city in Australia where we’ve hosted an event and we’re all very excited to be bringing an amazing card to our fans this December.”
Fighting out of Sydney, Hunt (9-8) is a former K1 World Grand Prix Champion who has won four of his last five bouts (three by knockout). The 39-year-old earned Knockout of the Night honors in his only other professional mixed martial arts bout in Australia, when he defeated Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 in Sydney in February 2011.
Silva (18-5) most recently fought for the world heavyweight title in July 2013 when he suffered a first-round technical knockout against UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. The 33-year-old had earned the title shot with impressive back-to-back knockout wins over veterans Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem.
UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot will be Australia’s fifth-ever UFC event and second in Queensland following a December 2012 visit to the Gold Coast and three stops in Sydney since 2010. UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot airs live on Fuel in Australia.
