UFC heavyweight Shane del Rosario died on Sunday night as a result of complications from a heart attack suffered two weeks ago in his native California.

Fellow UFC competitor and roommate Ian McCall found Del Rosario in his room on the morning of Nov. 26. McCall called 911 and applied CPR before Del Rosario was rushed to the hospital. He remained in critical condition at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Calif.

Del Rosario's family initially kept him on life support for several days, but Del Rosario kept fighting until late Sunday after being removed from life support.

According to initial reports from teammate Erik Apple, Del Rosario did not suffer from any prior heart problems. However, Del Rosario's management team later released a statement that doctors could link the fighter to a rare heart condition known as Long QT Syndrome.

The Hacienda Heights, Calif., native pulled out of a planned heavyweight bout with Guto Inocente at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 due to a rib injury. There has been no direct link made between his rib injury and subsequent heart attack.

The former WBC Muay Thai heavyweight champion last competed in December 2012, suffering a second-round knockout loss at the hands of Pat Barry. He previously suffered a TKO setback against Stipe Miocic in his UFC debut, snapping his perfect 11-0 professional record.

Before joining the UFC, Del Rosario competed for Strikeforce and M-1 Global, where he notched victories over the likes of Maxim Grishin, Lolohea Mahe and Lavar Johnson.

Del Rosario was 30 years old.
