Longtime MMA veteran and Bellator fighter Joe Camacho has passed away due to an apparent heart attack. He was 41 years old.

Camacho was rushed to Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, Calif., early Monday morning, according to a report from Sherdog.com. He was not feeling well over dinner on Sunday night, Camacho’s cousin, Charlie Valencia, told the website.

After arriving at the hospital, Camacho was pronounced dead, according to the report.

West Covina police on Monday confirmed Camacho’s death, but said the official cause of death had yet to be determined.

Camacho’s most recent MMA fight came at Bellator 106, dropping a unanimous decision to Cleber Luciano on the undercard at the Long Beach Arena. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt also competed for a number of Southern California regional fight promoters, including King of the Cage and Respect in the Cage, among others.

Camacho was also an active Brazilian jui-jitsu competitor, having just competed in the North American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s competition in Long Beach, Calif., over the weekend.

MMA fighters took to social media on Monday morning to express their condolences to Camacho and those close to him.

“Just got sad news from Charlie Valencia,” Urijah Faber wrote on Twitter. ”Joe Camacho unexpectedly passed away today.”

“Really sad to hear about losing another fighter due to a heart attack,” wrote Cub Swanson.

The news of Camacho’s passing comes a week after another Southern California fighter, Shane Del Rosario, passed away due to full cardiac arrest.

Camacho’s MMA record was 13-19-3.
