UFC 178: Jones vs Cormier - Fight Card Updates
Gustafsson Injured, Cormier versus Jones at UFC 178
No. 1 light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson has suffered a knee injury that has forced him to withdraw from his UFC 178 bout with champion Jon Jones. As a result, No. 2 contender Daniel Cormier will challenge Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Undefeated at 15-0 in his pro career, Cormier owns UFC victories over the likes of Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Patrick Cummins and Dan Henderson. A two-time U.S. Olympian and former standout wrestler at Oklahoma State University, Cormier has long been considered a potential threat to Jones’ reign as 205-pound champion.
He and Jones have traded words in the press for months regarding a potential fight and their feud only intensified once Cormier moved to the light heavyweight division at the start of 2014. This heated rivalry will now finally be settled inside the Octagon® on Sept. 27 in what could be one of the biggest events of the year.

Following big wins on last weekend's UFC Fight Night card in San Jose, lightweight contenders Bobby "King" Green and Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal will get right back to business on Saturday, September 27, when they meet in a pivotal UFC 178 bout in Las Vegas. Both graduates of the Strikeforce organization, Green and Masvidal have taken their game to the next level in the Octagon, with Green's eight-fight winning streak including four UFC victories, most recently a split decision win over Josh Thomson last Saturday. On that same card, Miami's Masvidal rose from a first-round knockdown to decision Daron Cruickshank. "Gamebred" has now won two in row and five of his last six.

Lee vs. Tuck heads to Las Vegas this September
The stacked UFC 178 card on September 27 got another solid addition to the lineup, as lightweight prospects Kevin Lee and Jon Tuck have verbally agreed to meet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Now fighting out of Las Vegas, "The Motown Phenom" Lee is coming off his first UFC win in July, as he outpointed Jesse Ronson. Tuck is also fresh from a big Octagon victory, as he moved to 2-1 in the UFC with a third-round submission of Jake Lindsey.
