Shields still unsure of contractual position
Top welterweight Jake Shields is still in limbo following the breakdown of the EliteXC organization last month.
"We're waiting a week or two to see what Elite's next move is," Shields' team told Fighters Only today.
"They have to get something together soon, if they're still in business."
Shields, who held the EliteXC welterweight title, is among dozens of fighters who were caught by surprise when the promotion went under.
Their woes were compounded when it was revealed that Pro-Elite, parent company of the failed organization was planning to auction the fighter's contracts to the highest bidder.
That auction was postponed through the combined efforts of a number of top
MMA agents – which means fighters are still unsure where they stand.
If EliteXC is no longer in business, Shields may well follow the lead of his most recent title challenger, Paul 'Semtex' Daley, who has elected to move forward with his career by signing for Canada's Maximum Fighting Championships.
