Promise Comes to Fruition
Franklin-Silva UFC rematch set for Saturday at U.S. Bank Arena
By Chad Edward
Ultimate Fighting made a promise to Rich Franklin, and the Cincinnati-based mixed martial artist wanted it kept.
"Don't say it if you don't mean it," Rich Franklin told UFC president Dana White in the Octagon at UFC 68 in Columbus in March after Franklin forced his opponent's corner to throw in the towel.
White assured him he was serious. The first UFC card in Ohio already had broken the North American mixed martial arts attendance record with 19,079 spectators at Nationwide Arena and would generate $11 million to $15 million for the state, White said.
So Franklin took the microphone and relayed White's promise to his fans: "I just talked to Dana, and he said we can do the rematch in Cincinnati."
