Two of the top Lightweight fighters in the world are set to tangle as Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante has agreed to take on Japanese star Tatsuya "Crusher" Kawajiri in a bout that will take place at DREAM 9 on May 26th. The bout will mark Cavalcante's return to action after a layoff of over thirteen months.
Cavalcante will be looking to get back into winning form at DREAM 9 following his controversial no contest against Shinya Aoki in the first round of DREAM's Lightweight Grand Prix at DREAM's inaugural event and the subsequent loss to Aoki in the rematch at DREAM. The loss snapped Cavalcante's fourteen-fight unbeaten streak (12-0-1, 1 NC).
Kawajiri also took part in the promotion's Lightweight Grand Prix, making it to the semifinals of the tournament before being stopped by Eddie Alvarez in the first round of an absolute slugfest. Kawajiri returned to action at DREAM's most recent card on March 8th, submitting Ross Ebanez via rear-naked choke in the first round.
