Brothers in arms - Younger Lima steps up to face Fraser at MFC 27
On the same night his brother vies for the MFC welterweight crown, Dhiego
Lima has stepped up to make his organizational debut at MFC 27: Breaking
Point.
Lima (3-0) will take on Bill Fraser (4-1) at a catchweight of 175 pounds in
a fight that takes over the spot vacated by the previously scheduled
heavyweight bout between Ron Sparks and Ryan Fortin. Both Sparks (broken
hand) and Fortin (shoulder) were injured in final preparation for their
matchup. The door swung open for Lima and Fraser, and they were duly
rewarded as their clash will launch the main-card live television broadcast
on HDNet Fights emanating from the River Cree Resort and Casino, just
outside Edmonton, Alberta.
Later on in the evening's main event, the younger Lima, who is just 21, will
have the opportunity to watch his year-older brother Douglas try to claim
the MFC world welterweight championship when he squares off against Jesse
Juarez.
Like his brother, Dhiego Lima has shown substantial submission talents as he
has won all three of fights via tapout with two of those coming inside the
opening round. Lima trains with his sibling at the American Top Team's
headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
Fraser, who hails from Comox, British Columbia, has mixed in training in his
home province along with stints in Las Vegas. In both of his fights this
year, Fraser has stopped his opposition in the second round - one via
submission and one via TKO.
