The question regarding where Jay Hieron would land after having received his release from Strikeforce in August has finally been answered!
According to a press release from Bellator, the 19-4 welterweight will be joining the crop of 170-pounders competing in the promotion’s forthcoming divisional tournament with the winner ultimately advancing to face current champ Ben Askren.
When asked about his decision to sign with Bellator, the XTreme Couture original replied, “At this point in my career, I want to stay as active as possible, and the tournament format allows me to do that. It’s a great organization, and it’s just the perfect fit.”
Hieron, who Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney labeled “a world-class fighter with serious talent,” has won nine of the last ten times he’s stepped into the ring including his last seven bouts. Among others, “The Thoroughbred” holds notable past victories against Joe Riggs, Jesse Taylor, and Jake Ellenberger.
