Marcos Galvao Signs With Bellator, Will Compete in Season 5

Postby keithlewis » Tue May 03, 2011 12:19 pm

Following an impressive Bellator debut performance against Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren, former World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion Marcos "Loro" Galvao has agreed to a long term contract with Bellator and will compete in the promotions upcoming Bantamweight Tournament, with the winner of the eight-man competition earning a title shot against reigning Bellator Bantamweight World Champion Zack "Fun Size" Makovsky.

Training out of Team Nova Uniao alongside Bellator featherweight Marlon Sandro and UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, Galvao took on Bellator Featherweight World Champion Joe Warren in a non-title Super Fight at Bellator 41. After three grueling rounds that saw Galvao push "The Baddest Man on the Planet" to the brink, the judges awarded Warren the victory, but even with the defeat, it was clear Galvao had a future with Bellator.

"After going blow for blow with our Featherweight Champion Joe Warren, there was really no doubt we wanted Galvao back with Bellator," said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. "In Bellator, fighters control their own destiny, and after the performance Marcos put on at Bellator 41, he definitely earned a spot in our bantamweight tournament."

Warren also has plans on entering the Bantamweight Tournament, so a rematch with Galvao certainly isn't out of the question.

"I definitely don't believe I lost my fight with Joe Warren," said a confident Galvao. "I want a rematch just in case there was doubt in the first fight. I'll clear up those doubts the second time around."

Thankful for getting another opportunity to prove himself in the cage with Bellator, Galvao is already preparing for the Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament.

"I'm extremely excited to show the world that I can compete and win at this top level here with Bellator," said Galvao. "Fans were able to see what I brought to the table the first time around against Joe Warren, and there's a lot more where that came from."
