Nick Diaz will vacate his Strikeforce welterweight title before facing Georges St. Pierre on Oct. 29 in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana White said.
It is not known when Diaz will officially relinquish his Strikeforce title, but according to White it's a done deal.
"He will give up his title, he will give up his Strikeforce title," White said. "He will come in and fight [UFC welterweight titleholder] Georges St. Pierre; two guys will fight for the vacant belt in Strikeforce and we will go from there."
White did not say who will battle for the Strikeforce welterweight title, nor did he say when that fight would be held. Paul Daley and Tyron Woodley are commonly regarded as the top two Strikeforce welterweight contenders.
Though Diaz is focusing his attention on taking the UFC 170-pound belt from St. Pierre, he is free to return to Strikeforce in the future. For now, Diaz is strictly a UFC-based fighter.
