Antonio McKee has been stripped of the Maximum Fighting Championship lightweight title after coming in seven pounds overweight at Thursday’s MFC 32weigh-ins.
McKee will still face Brian Cobb in the co-main event, but it will now be a three-round non-title affair. Sherdog.com confirmed the news with an MFC official on Thursday, who also verified that McKee will be released by the promotion following his bout with Cobb.
Headlined by a five-round light heavyweight scrap between UFC vet Wilson Gouveia and MFC staple Dwayne Lewis, “Bitter Rivals” takes place Friday at the Mayfield Inn Trade and Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Gouveia’s clash with Lewis marks the MFC’s inaugural five-round non-title fight.

MFC Lightweight Champion Antonio McKee Shows Up At MFC 32 Weigh-Ins Overweight & Mark Pavelich Cuts Him
MFC Champion Antonio McKee has been stripped of the Maximum Fighting Championship lightweight title after coming in seven pounds overweight at Thursday’s MFC 32: Bitter Rivals weigh-ins and was told by MFC President Mark Pavelich that win or loss he will be cut after the fight. His opponent Brian Cobb also came in overweight (albeit by ½ pound) and he was informed that if he losses to McKee he will also lose his roster spot with the MFC. MFC 32: Bitter Rivals is taking place on Friday, January 27th.
**Update – McKee defeated Cobb via Unanimous Decision (29-28 all judges) and so it seems both fighters are fired.**
