Here is what Jim Ross had to say:
"Not much fallout from the Brock Lesnar loss to Frank Mir, or so it seems. Lesnar has said the right things since losing by tapout and Brock’s UFC future is still bright, but a nice win in 2008 would not hurt his cause. I talked to Stone Cold Monday morning and he said he enjoyed his Vegas weekend including staying there to watch the Super Bowl. Steve said that it was obvious that Lesnar was in awesome shape, had prepared diligently, but he simply made a simple mistake that any “rookie” would and could make in MMA competition. All my friends that attended the UFC 81 event said without question that Lesnar was the “star attraction” of the night and that most fans were there to see him, especially many of the celebs in attendance."
Here is what Lance Storm had to say:
"From a fan stand point I was disappointed that Brock lost, but thought it was a great fight, and a strong showing by Brock. I don’t know Brock well, but I did work with him in WWE and genuinely liked the guy. I’m a huge Brock supporter and hope he has great success in MMA. Going into the fight I was fairly confident Brock would win, but not completely sure. From what I’d heard about Mir, a win is never a sure thing when fighting that guy, no matter how good you are, and the chance of getting caught in a submission was a real possibility."
WWE diva Victoria also posted a new blog on her MySpace. Here are her comments on Brock Lesnar's UFC fight last night: "I did watch Brock fight last night. He fought a former champion in his second pro fight, and I thought he looked strong. I think he'll do very well down the road." She also notes that she'll have a 'major announcement' in her next blog when she returns from WWE's tour of South America in a few weeks.
"The Sun" UK news site has conducted another interview with Paul Heyman. This time, Heyman talks about the first UFC fight of his former protoge, Brock Lesnar. Here are the highlights:
Heyman says there is a lot more to come from the former WWE superstar. He said: “I loved the Lesnar and Mir fight. That was an awesome, exciting, crowd-heating spectacle.
“That’s exactly what you want when you buy a UFC pay-per-view. Brock was great. Explosive, powerful, and his punches were violent and delivered with malicious intent.”
Lesnar was deducted a point by referee Steve Mazzagatti for striking his opponent on the back of the head, but Heyman says Mir’s experience was the key factor in earning him victory on the night.
Heyman said: “I’m surprised there’s not been more controversy over Mazzagatti’s call to stop the fight because of the inadvertent punch to the back of the head.
“But there’s no escaping what happened, and from my vantage point, the result would have been the same. Mir was ready for him...period.
“It was the story of the night. It happened with Marquardt and Horn. It happened to Sylvia. Lesnar left himself open for that moment and Mir saw it and got him.
“It was as good a 90 seconds as I have ever seen in the UFC.”
"Brock showed he was for real, there was no denying it. He came in and had everyone believing he was going to beat a savvy, veteran cage fighter.
