According to statements made by MMA legend Don Frye on TAGG Radio, the former UFC, PRIDE, and HERO'S veteran will face Oleg Taktarov on April 11. The fight will take place in the newly formed YAMMA Pit Fighting organization, founded by former UFC owner Boby Meyrowitz.
Frye (18-6-1, 1 NC) last fought in January when he defeated Bryan Pardoe in only forty-seven seconds. Frye won the UFC 8 tournament in 1996, which included a submission win over Gary Goodridge. Frye holds wins over David "Tank" Abbott, Gilbert Yvel, Ken Shamrock, and - less notably - Chad "Akebono" Rowan. He has also faced James Thompson, former UFC tournament champion Mark Coleman, and Olympic judo gold medalist Hidehiko Yoshida.
Frye began his UFC career in 1996. In his first year of competition he won ten times and lost only once. Following his win over "Tank" Abbott at Ultimate Ultimate 1996, Frye disappeared from MMA for five years. He reappeared in the Japanese PRIDE organization and has fought consistently overseas since then.
Taktarov (15-5-2) made his return to MMA after a nine year break in November when he defeated John Marsh with a kneebar. Taktarov began his career in mixed martial arts in 1993 and fought consistently for the next five years. "The Russian Bear" holds wins over David "Tank" Abbott and Marco Ruas. He has also faced Ken Shamrock, Gary Goodridge, Dan Severn, and Renzo Gracie. Taktarov won the UFC 6 tournament, and reached the finals of the Ultimate Ultimate 1995 tournament.
