Xbox360 Problems

The only problem I ever had was when my Xbox360 displayed everything in Black and White. Then I found out that they did not put a heatsink on the GPU. The heat and cold must caused the GPU to move slightly and then caused my problem. I received my new xbox about two weeks later.
What I want to know is why would MS being the technology compnay that they are not want to put a heatsink on the processors? Maybe they thought it would not be an issue if people "read the manuall on how to mount the 360 on shelves or book cases. For me my 360 sits on top of an old Dell monitor stand that sits on top of my Yamaha 5.1 receiver. I have open air on either side and back. It could also be that they rushed the dev or just wanted to save some money.
Thoughts?
