10 Questions With Eliot Marshall (by Darrick Patrick)

Eliot "The Fire" Marshall is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in Ring Of Fire and recently appeared on the eighth season of the television show The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Jules Bruchez in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at The Ultimate Finale for season eight on December 13th, 2008.

Darrick: What was the journey that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Eliot: I started Karate when I was six years old. When I was seventeen, a bunch of the guys I was doing Karate with started BJJ. They showed me some stuff and then I moved to Colorado to go to college. I met Amal Easton, started taking BJJ classes, and the rest is history.

Darrick: Since completing this recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, how have you been spending your time?

Eliot: I have spent most of my time training. A bunch of the guys had fights over the last six months, so I've been helping them get ready. I have been working a lot on my striking and wrestling, and I have spent a bunch of time in New Mexico at Jackson's MMA. I've also taken a couple of vacations with my wife.

Darrick: In your experience so far, what brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Eliot: Watching the guys that I help get ready do well in their fights.

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Jules Bruchez on December 13th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Eliot: Jules is a tough, strong guy and I'm sure he has been working on his skills. I have been working hard as well and if I stick to what I'm supposed to do, then everything should work out fine for me.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Eliot: The best advice is not to rush it. Take your time and build solid skills before you start to fight.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Eliot: While growing up, my parents were great influences - I had the best parents in the world. After that it was my friend Steve's parents Mr. and Mrs. Shayka, and my Karate instructor Mike Garaguso.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Eliot: I like to travel with my wife a lot. Other than that, I like movies, poker, and hanging out with my friends.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Eliot: The first memory I have is playing in the hospital playroom when my sister was born. I was three years old at the time.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Eliot: I love to teach children - I find great joy in watching the development of kids.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Eliot: I would watch a lot of movies.
