Dustin "The Persian Prince" Akbari is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Palace Fighting Championship and the International Fighting Championship. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Evan Dunham at PFC 12: High Stakes on January 22nd, 2009.
Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
Dustin: I've been in martial arts since I was seven and I have always been competitive, so it's really a great outlet for me.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
Dustin: Don't be in a hurry - enjoy the journey.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Evan Dunham on January 22nd. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?
Dustin: I love challenges, so I'm very excited for this one! He's a good opponent.
Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?
Dustin: Urijah Faber - you know, I have known Urijah for a long time now and he's a very positive and goal-oriented person. So, I've learned a lot of good habits from him throughout the years.
Darrick: While growing up, who are some of the people that greatly influenced you?
Dustin: All of my coaches.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Dustin: Getting better as time goes by. Also, the physical and mental benefits of physical exercise aren't so bad either. (Smiles)
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Dustin: Anything that keeps me active - such as skateboarding, basketball, weightlifting, etc.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Dustin: That would be that I have a twin brother.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Dustin: Playing with my brothers in Iran when I was around six years old.
Darrick: If you were stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of your life, what three items besides food and water would you take in with you?
Dustin: Man, that would suck! (Laughs) Ummm...I'd have to say two of those things would be a laptop and a shitload of games. Hopefully we have electricity! The third item would be some painkillers to OD on when I have had enough 'cause I don't think I would want to live if I'm stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of my life.
