10 Questions With Jesse Lennox (by Darrick Patrick)

Jesse "The Ox" Lennox is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as the International Fight League, Adrenaline MMA, Gladiators Fighting Series, EFX, Mainstream MMA, and Extreme Challenge. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Blas Avena at WEC 38: Varner vs. Cerrone on January 25th, 2009.

Darrick: What was the road that led you to competing in professional mixed martial arts?

Jesse: I wrestled for most of my life and boxed in college. I found someone who taught MMA in my hometown named Keoni, trained with him for a year, and originally had no plans of competing. I am a competitive guy though, so I just kept going with it.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Blas Avena on January 25th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Jesse: He is a good Jiu-Jitsu fighter and finishes fights fast. This match will be a fast, furious fight and I have no doubt that if they show one of the preliminary fights on TV that this will be the one.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Jesse: The thrill of victory and having all of the hard work pay off is the best feeling hands down.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Jesse: I am going to name some names that most people know, but a lot more that most people have never heard of. Pat is my head coach and trainer, so I get most of my advice and tips from him. The others are guys I train with in the gym that I look up to greatly and we treat each other like family. Most people think that MMA is not a team sport, but they are narrow-minded. Your team is everything to you in order to be a good fighter. Pat Miletich, Ben Rothwell, Mike C, Ryan McGivern, Brandon Adamson, L.C. Davis, Josh Neer, and Spencer Fisher from MFS. Also Keoni Koch, Tom Grubb, Dave Sherzer, Ken "Kong" McClelland, Beau Laughridge, and Devon Christian are a few more to just name some of my most common training partners. If you haven't heard of some of the names, look them up because they are the future.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Jesse: I hated the first three practices I went to and wasn't sure if I was going to ever come back, but I decided to stick with it. So give it a chance and you will like it.

Darrick: Who is someone that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Jesse: My father hands down. We went through a lot growing up and if someday I am half the man that he is I will die a happy man.

Darrick: Outside of competitive fighting, what are your other interests?

Jesse: I just bought a house, so that's pretty much it right now.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Jesse: Not sure at the moment, I can't recall.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Jesse: I drive a 1985 Buick Century...and yeah, it's pretty bad ass.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Jesse: Hard to tell without being there - I really don't have an answer for this.
