10 Questions With Spencer Fisher (by Darrick Patrick)

Spencer "The King" Fisher is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Battle At The Boardwalk, Superbrawl, Courage Fighting Championships, Xtreme Kage Kombat, International Fighting Championship, Tuesday Night Fights, Victory Fighting Championship, Extreme Challenge, Freestyle Fighting Championships, and International Cage Combat. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Caol Uno in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 99: The Comeback on June 13th, 2009.

Darrick: How did you end up competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Spencer: Well, by the time I was ten years old I had already figured out that I was too small for professional wrestling. Ever since I can remember I had an interest in mixed martial arts, starting with Karate when I was younger. It just all went from there.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Caol Uno on June 13th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Spencer: Caol is one of the fighters I have looked up to since I started following mixed martial arts. I expect him to be my toughest opponent to date.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Spencer: Just put everything that you have into it. One hundred percent or nothing at all.

Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?

Spencer: Jeremy Horn - he is a true pioneer of mixed martial arts. He is always coming up with new techniques and constantly reinventing the wheel.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Spencer: I get paid to do something that I love and it's something I have dreamed about doing since I was a kid.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Spencer: My family, especially my grandparents. My grandpa was the hardest working man I have ever seen. He always put one hundred percent into his work, going above and beyond what was asked of him.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Spencer: I enjoy deer hunting and hanging out with my family and friends.

Darrick: When you're no longer amongst the living, how would you most like to be remembered?

Spencer: I would like to be remembered as a fighter who left it all in the ring and finished fights. Part of my history would be that every fan got their money's worth whenever they watched me fight. I'd also like to be remembered as a family man and the Donut King!

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Spencer: I'm afraid of the dark and I have a fear of flying.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Spencer: That would be hearing a story about my grandfather. When he was younger at the voting polls in North Carolina, he knocked a guy clean out of his shoes for tearing a Republican sticker off of his bumper.
