10 Questions With Louis Taylor (by Darrick Patrick)
Louis "Handgunz" Taylor is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Strikeforce, M-1 Global, Bellator Fighting Championships, Hoosier Fight Club, International Sport Combat Federation, Total Fight Challenge, Adrenaline MMA, and Corral's Combat Classic. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Joe Riggs in the main event of Strikeforce at ShoMMA 10: Riggs vs. Taylor on August 13th, 2010.
Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
Louis: I was seeing the success of others within MMA and was looking at the direction my life was heading. I just wanted something better for me and my family.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Louis: That's a funny question because a few years ago my answer would have been from the sidelines about something I really didn't know about. Now though, I respect fighters who fight all challengers - whether or not it's considered good or bad for their careers.
Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Joe Riggs on August 13th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?
Louis: It's a great opportunity for me to fight Joe Riggs and to get this win I'll be sure to be a one hundred percent sucker ducker. Taking his name to add to my fame.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
Louis: The best advice I can give to those thinking of taking this path is to achieve balance. Balance the life you have right now because when it's your time you don't need anything extra in the way of your dreams.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Louis: The people who have had a positive influence on my life outside of my family are my high school coach Ken Bringe, my current coach Roberto Ramirez, my grandmother Sister Gladys Taylor, and all of my opponents that I face in the cage.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Louis: It's shallow, but true. The thing that really brings me the most fulfillment in martial arts is the money that I make competing. Without it, there's no doubt that I wouldn't be doing it.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Louis: My interests outside of mixed martial arts don't go further then my wife and kids these days. If it's not about them, it's about my extended family Chicago Fight Team.
Darrick: What comic book character do you relate to most?
Louis: Peter Parker because Mary Jane is always getting him into trouble.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Louis: There is more not known about me than there is, such as the fact that I like to write poetry and to sing for example.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Louis: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson slamming Reggie Wright during our wrestling practice in college. Afterwards, Wright punched Rampage in his eye which gave him a permanent gash in his eyebrow. That set off a brawl between the haves and have-nots on the team.
