10 Questions With Tulio Quintanilla (by Darrick Patrick)

Tulio Quintanilla is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as the Mixed Fighting Alliance, Evening In The Cage, Ultimate Gladiator Championship, and Rage In Cage. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Brian Eckstein in Bellator Fighting Championships at BFC 24 on August 12th, 2010.

Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Tulio: I was captivated by the UFC while I was growing up and always wondered how it would feel to get inside a cage or ring and fight. I also enjoyed the adrenaline that fighting gave me. I was being very active in other sports as well, but I never got that same rush of adrenaline that I got from fighting. So, one day I just woke up and decided that I wanted to fight professionally. I started training for it and the rest is history.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Tulio: If you are looking to start training in mixed martial arts to get in shape or as a hobby - well, it's the best thing you can do for yourself, your body, and your health. It helps you lean up, shed some pounds, and relieve stress. It also helps you be more disciplined, more flexible, more confident, and it also teaches you self-control all while having fun and learning how to defend yourself. If you are looking into MMA for competition, there's no other sport like it. All I can say to anyone considering training in martial arts is that for whatever goal you have set in mind, just have a strong desire and unending perseverance to achieve it and never give up. "Quitters never win and winners never quit."

Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?

Tulio: Randy Couture for the fact that he showed the entire world that age is nothing but a number. He has exhibited that hard work ethics and a smart game plan can take your far in the highest level of competition.

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Brian Eckstein on August 12th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Tulio: I'm very excited about this fight since I've been out of the cage for quite a bit due to injuries. I'm feeling great at this moment and I'm also in the best shape of my life. It's going to be a very fun and tough fight and I'm really excited about it. I can't wait to get in the cage and show everyone my God-given skills.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Tulio: Well, with being a martial arts instructor I get to work with a lot of individuals that look into the martial arts for specific goals that they would like to achieve. Helping others achieve their goals brings great happiness in my life.

Darrick: Who is a person that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Tulio: My mother has been the greatest influence in my life. She taught me that no matter how bad things get to always keep my head up, push forward, and never give up. Basically she told me in different words without me comprehending it at that time. To quote Napolean Hill - "Every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit."

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Tulio: I like reading a lot, hanging out with friends and family, and learning about business as much as possible so that I can become as successful as I can be in life.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Tulio: I'm big into self-motivation and self-help material.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Tulio: I'd probably just set things on fire and blow up stuff. (Laughs) Just kidding, I really have no idea what I would do.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Tulio: Skipping school at the age of six and going home.
