Dennis Siver is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Tempel, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, World Freefight Challenge, European Vale Tudo, Outsider Cup, Budo Freefight System, and Kombat Komplett. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against George Sotiropoulos in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch on February 27th, 2011.
Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?
Dennis: I've trained and competed in kickboxing, and I did quite well. I used to be the German champion and ranked in the top ten in Europe. I wanted to try something else though and I started with ground fighting. I eventually competed in MMA to mix my styles up and I loved it.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Dennis: Fedor Emelianenko and Georges St-Pierre (GSP) are two people that I especially respect. Both of them are truly respectful fighters with great technique and power. I love to see those guys fight!
Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Dennis: It's a very tough sport. You have to train really hard to compete. Look for a great gym with strong sparring partners and excellent teachers. Before stepping into the cage, you should be good in all disciplines such as boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, etc. Also, never be scared of your opponent. Otherwise, you have already lost.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against George Sotiropoulos on February 27th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?
Dennis: George is a really good fighter, I truly respect him and he has great technique on the ground. I really hope that the fans enjoy our fight and support us. I'm especially looking forward to fighting him in Australia!
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Dennis: To win a fight and get the bonus! It's an honor for me if the UFC likes my performance and awards me due to that. Also, I love to see that the sport is growing in my home country and all over the world. I love the variety of techniques and rules as well.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Dennis: My parents were the main influence to me as I grew up. Also, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Arnold Schwarzenegger were my heroes.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Dennis: I love all kinds of sports. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends, watching movies, and playing chess.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Dennis: My first day of school is as far back as I can remember.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Dennis: I hate losing weight! I'm almost addicted to tortes and cakes.
Darrick: When you're no longer amongst the living, how would you most like to be remembered?
Dennis: I would like to be remembered as a great fighter, a nice person, and a lovely son.
