10 Questions With Joe Duffy (by Darrick Patrick)

Joe Duffy is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, Angrrr Management, Knuckle Up MMA, and Spartan Fight Challenge. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Francis Heagney in the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship at CWFC 43 on July 9th, 2011.

Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Joe: I began training in Tae Kwon Do when I was five years old. With the same club, I began learning traditional Jiu-Jitsu and evolved into mixed martial arts. I started fighting on the amateur circuit and worked my way up slowly to where I am today.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Joe: I think a lot of people start mixed martial arts because they want to be a pro fighter. I would just say enjoy your training and competing.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Joe: Georges St-Pierre (GSP) because he's a true martial artist and he is humble. Another person is Wanderlei Silva for his fighting mentality and the excitement he brings to the Octagon.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Francis Heagney on July 9th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Joe: It's a great fight for me. Francis has the ability to test me and put me under pressure, so I'm excited for the challenge.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Joe: I love everything about the martial arts. From training to competing and even the history. I really don't think I could pinpoint one thing.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Joe: My family was probably my greatest influence. Also, my coach because I started training so young. I listened to everything he said.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Joe: I'm a big sports fan. There are not many sports I can't watch, but rugby would probably be my favorite. MMA aside, of course.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Joe: I don't know for sure if it's my oldest memory, but I can remember when we moved back to Ireland for a bit when I was three years old.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Joe: I'm a sucker for sweet stuff, especially cake.

Darrick: If you had 24 hours left to live, how would you spend that time?

Joe: I would have a big gathering of all my family and friends, with lots of food and a bit of music. I'm easily pleased. (Laughs)
