10 Questions With Trisha Clark (by Darrick Patrick)

Trisha Clark is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as C3 Fights and Crowbar MMA. At the time of this interview, her next scheduled match is against Brenda Gonzales in King of the Cage at KOTC: Overdrive on August 20th, 2011.

Darrick: How did you end up competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Trisha: I played basketball and volleyball in college. After I was finished with that, I needed something else to do. My boyfriend had just started fighting and I thought it looked like fun. So, I started training and had my first amateur fight after four months.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Trisha: It takes a lot of time and commitment. There are a lot of sweat and tears that go into practice. As long as you work hard, you will succeed.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Trisha: Every female fighter. It takes a lot to get in there, hit someone, and get hit back. Also, Jared Hess. He's currently fighting in Bellator and he never gives up in his fights.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Brenda Gonzales on August 20th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Trisha: I'm not sure how it will go. I hear that she is a boxer and for the last few months I have worked extra hard on that. Prepare to see a great stand-up match between us. Other than that, I don't know anything else about her.

This fight will also be at 130 pounds. I normally fight at 125, which means it's not as big of a weight cut as normal. I think that will make it easier on my body when it comes to recovery. I am also especially excited about this fight being close to home.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Trisha: Knowing that I can protect myself, and be confident with myself. Also, just being in shape and healthy is very fulfilling.

Darrick: Do you feel as if there are any extra hurdles being a female in mixed martial arts or do you believe it to be basically the same struggle for both genders?

Trisha: In some ways it's a struggle for both because we are all trying to get to the top. I feel it's easier for males to get noticed and move towards the top though since there are so many promotions geared towards the male fighter. Also, there are people that don't have respect for the female fighter. When it comes to wanting to fight on a promotion, the promoters sometimes turn the other way. Hopefully that will all change because there are some amazing female fighters.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Trisha: I love camping, playing video games, traveling, and playing slow pitch softball.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Trisha: I think I was six or seven years old, but I'm not positive. I just know that I was really young. My mom put my hair up in a side ponytail and I wanted to go show my neighbor friend. I went over there and she wasn't home. It made me sad.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Trisha: I'm a hoarder. Also, I am deathly afraid of being in confined places.

Darrick: If you had three wishes, what would they be?

Trisha: I wish to live in Mexico, have my own MMA gym, and make enough money to be able to share it with my family.
