10 Questions With Magnus Cedenblad (by Darrick Patrick)

Magnus "Jycken" Cedenblad is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Vision Fighting Championship, Fight for Change, Superior Challenge, Heroes Gate, The Zone Fighting Championship, Cage, ProFC, and Carelia Fight. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Francis Carmont in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva on April 14th, 2012.

Darrick: How did you end up competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Magnus: I have always loved a challenge and being able to compete. Before I did MMA, I was playing golf and tennis. One of my friends took me to a martial arts practice and I just fell in love. After a year of training, I just wanted to test myself. I had never been in a fight and this was probably the closest I could get. Apparently, I was pretty good at it as well.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Magnus: My parents have always been there for me and supported me. They have given me the opportunity to be me.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Magnus: Train hard and believe in yourself. Try not to care about what other people think. Also, remember you only have one life.

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Francis Carmont on April 14th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Magnus: It's a great fight for me. He is a really good fighter, I think he is one of the best in the division. If I win this one, I know I can win them all.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Magnus: It is such a complex sport, with always something new to learn. There is so much knowledge within martial arts. That's my goal, my mission. Not to win any trophies, I just want be the best mixed martial artist that I can be.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Magnus: I respect all people everywhere, despite what they are doing, just because of the simple fact that they are human beings. If the question is do I have somebody I look up to especially, the answer is no. I have one person I look up to a lot and that's my fiancée, but she is not a fighter.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Magnus: I like spending time with friends, family, and especially my fiancée. I also enjoy being out in the countryside, eating a lot of good food.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Magnus: That's the downside of being a fighter, you don't remember that much. (Smiles) That's a hard question. I dont know exactly how old I was, I was very young, but I remember my brother showed me a little bit of a Bruce Lee movie. I wish I could say that it was then that my career started. It wasn't though. I cried so much from what I saw and my mother got really upset with my brother.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Magnus: I dream of one day living in the woods and just surviving on the food that I can catch.

Darrick: What moment in your life have you been proudest of so far?

Magnus: When I went abroad and competed in the first fight out of my country. I went to Russia all by myself and won. That was a big deal for me.
