10 Questions With Amir Sadollah (by Darrick Patrick)

Amir Sadollah is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and was the winner of the seventh season of the television show The Ultimate Fighter. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against a currently undecided opponent at UFC 91 on November 15th, 2008.

Darrick: What was the road that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Amir: I started off pretty slowly, trying to be fairly well-rounded before I went pro. I began doing grappling competitions, Muay Thai fights, and eventually MMA fights before I went to the professional level.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Amir: Definitely my parents and my colleagues in the operating room. I always look up to intelligent, motivated people. Monkeys are pretty cool too.

Darrick: Generally speaking, what does a typical training session for you consist of?

Amir: I usually break it up into focusing on conditioning, striking, or grappling - but they are all usually included in some form in every one of my workouts if I can help it.

Darrick: Any words of advice to other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Amir: I get this question a lot actually. The only thing I can say universally is that hard work and dedication always pay dividends. Also, cheat whenever possible.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Amir: That's a hard one to give an answer to other than it just does. I could never put my finger on what exactly it is, but I guess I just love the feeling of accomplishment. And I like to kick people.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Amir: I would say everyone that I train with and fight alongside in the UFC. One thing I love about this sport are the people involved - they are almost always cool, down-to-earth people.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Amir: I guess cars, girls, golf, traveling, and video games. Not in that order.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Amir: I'd probably play a lot of dress-up and talk to mannequins. Like I do now, but I wouldn't have to keep it on the low anymore.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Amir: Hmmm...when I was little, I had a big crush on Olivia Newton-John.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Amir: Going to the grocery store earlier this week. I get hit in the head a lot.
