10 Questions With Leonard Garcia (by Darrick Patrick)

Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, World Extreme Cagefighting, Ring Of Fire, and the Unified Shoot Wrestling Federation. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Jens Pulver at WEC 36 on November 5th, 2008.

Darrick: How did you end up competing in professional mixed martial arts?

Leonard: It kind of fell in my lap. I went to a show when I was eighteen and they asked me to fight - I did and never looked back.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Leonard: I respect all fighters, as they all have to be very self-confident to enter a fight, but my favorite fighters are Duane Ludwig and Eddie Alvarez.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Leonard: The fight. I love training, but it's hard on you everyday. The fight is fifteen or twenty-five minutes and you have to let it all go in that time. That's my fulfillment.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Leonard: It's a lot harder than just saying you are a cage fighter. Jump in with the full intentions of getting submerged.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Jens Pulver on November 5th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Leonard: I think it's going to be a great fight. Jens is the man. He's been around the block and he hits hard as hell. My kinda' guy - I can't wait.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Leonard: My mom and dad (grandparents) raised me from when I was six days old. They are the biggest influences in my life.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Leonard: I love cars and watching movies - my training partners call me the "King of Chillin" because if I'm not training, I'm at home watching a movie. Just chillin'.

Darrick: If you had three wishes, what would they be?

Leonard: I'd say to keep my family together, then to have enough money to support all of them, and to stay healthy all of the time. Reasons for the wishes is that my family means the world to me and the money is obvious - I think everyone wishes for that. Staying healthy would be nice so I wouldn't ever have to take fights with a broken jaw like I did in my last match.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Leonard: My oldest memory is from when I was about four. My mom took me to Pre-K, I waited until she left the room, and then I followed her out to the car. She laughed hysterically when she saw me coming up behind her because she said I was acting like I was cool with staying there, but then I snuck out.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Leonard: I love '80s music.
