10 Questions With Douglas Lima (by Darrick Patrick)
Douglas Lima is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as American Fight League, Ring Of Fire, Southern Kentucky Combat League, Premier Championship Fighting, Reign In The Cage, Xtreme Fight Series, International Sport Combat Federation, Border Warz, and Wild Bill's Fight Night. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Charles Blanchard at King Of The Cage: Invincible on March 27th, 2009.
Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
Douglas: It all began with watching action movies while growing up. I was always a big fan of fighting, but I never had the chance to train back in Brazil. Then, I finally started training when I came over here. I started with BJJ and after I saw my first Wanderlei Silva highlight reel, I got super excited about doing the same thing one day.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Charles Blanchard on March 27th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?
Douglas: I have heard nothing but good things about Charles. I heard that he's really tough, so I'm very excited to fight him. I haven't fought in six months and I can't wait to get back in there. I've been training very hard and I'll be in top shape for this fight. I don't think this one is going to go to a decesion.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Douglas: The Assuncao brothers, Mark Selbee, Roberto Traven, and there are many more. All of the guys in the gym who have always helped me train. It's great to be around these guys that are much more experienced than me and teach me everything that I need to know. I also respect all of the fighters that have ever stepped into the cage with me.
Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Douglas: Train very hard and be humble.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Douglas: Watching my brother and close friends fight is very fulfilling. They are important to me and seeing them finally getting in the ring satisfies me.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Douglas: My mom and dad because they worked very hard to always bring me the best. They give me a lot of support with everything and I thank God very much for them.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Douglas: I really like the beach - and eating, of course. (Smiles) I also enjoy spending time with my family, my girl, and my friends.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Douglas: Playing around with all of my cousins back in Brazil when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I haven't seen them in nine years.
Darrick: If you had superpowers, what would they be?
Douglas: If I had powers, it would be the ability to fly. (Laughs) Flying was always my favorite superpower from the cartoons I've always watched.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Douglas: I'm just a guy who loves to fight and be around other people. I get along with everybody and love what I do.
