10 Questions With Matt Jaggers (by Darrick Patrick)
Matt "Jagger Bomb" Jaggers is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Sengoku, King Of The Cage, ShoXC, Extreme Challenge, Courage Fighting Championships, Extreme Combat Challenge, and Supreme Fighting Challenge. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Pete Dominguez in Bellator Fighting Championships at BFC 5 on May 1st, 2009.
Darrick: What was the road that led you to competing in professional mixed martial arts?
Matt: I began wrestling when I was four years old and I continued wrestling up until college. Wrestling was my life and I loved the competition. I hadn't really been in a fight until after high school and I found out through fighting in the streets that I wasn't that bad at it.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Pete Dominguez on May 8th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?
Matt: I know Pete is from my area and he works out at a gym about an hour away from me. So, I know quite a bit about him really. I know he was a wrestler and has somewhat of a ground game. He's 9-3, which is a respectable record, but I plan on putting him away in the first round.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Matt: I respect anyone and everyone that's involved with this sport. Not only fighters, but the managers, promoters, and the sponsors that enable me to do what I love for a living.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
Matt: I would say get with a good gym, train your butt off, and get a good manager behind you. Don't try to immediately jump into the money. Take time with your career and don't turn pro until you are truly ready.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Matt: As far as MMA goes, it would be my dad and my cousin Josh Martin for introducing me to wrestling and taking me to tournaments every weekend for fifteen years straight. I was also being sent to camps to make me better and that was putting the fire in me to win.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Matt: I really like winning. There is no better feeling than battling hand-to-hand with another man and getting your hand raised after a war. I also enjoy helping the amateurs in the gym that are new to the game.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Matt: Going to concerts, skiing, and doing anything on the water.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Matt: My older sister had me stand on one end of the teeter-totter in our backyard and she jumped on the other end, sending me into the air! I sprained my arm pretty bad. I think I was five at the time.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Matt: I'm the Incredible Hulk. My five-year-old Camdyn and his cousin Eli are the only ones that know though.
Darrick: If you were stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of your life, what three items would you take in with you?
Matt: Some type of video game system, two chickens to lay eggs for me, and a lot of Gatorade powder.
