10 Questions With Jeff Horlacher (by Darrick Patrick)
Jeff "Stusskilla" Horlacher is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Rage In The Cage, Absolute Fighter Challenge, Sovereign Nations Mixed Martial Arts, Cage Supremecy, and Extreme Fighter Challenge. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match was intended to be against Phillip Preece but is now against a currently undecided opponent at Rage In The Cage 127 on May 16th, 2009.
Darrick: How did you end up competing professionally in mixed martial arts?
Jeff: I have always liked fighting ever since I was a kid. I heard on the radio one day that they were having cage fights that I could get in, so I showed up and the rest is history.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Jeff: I respect Diego Sanchez due to his incredible work ethic and Lyoto Machida for the way he goes for the kill.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match was supposed to be against Phillip Preece on May 16th, but you'll now be fighting someone else. What's the scoop with that?
Jeff: Phillip Preece got "injured" - I say that's convenient for him. They will have another opponent lined up for me, I just don't know who yet.
Darrick: You are also currently promoting for an upcoming Rage In The Cage show in Globe, Arizona. What are the details with this event?
Jeff: It is a Rage In The Cage family cagefighting event that people can bring their kids to and have a great time. It will be on June 26th and we will have six fighters from Globe competing in the show. Roland Sarria has given me the go ahead to promote this thing and with my marketing strategy and knowledge of the people and the town, it will undoubtedly be the biggest MMA event in the town's history. I have also chosen to make it a partial benefit show for the most courageous boy on Earth, Dylan Earven. Dylan is currently battling brain cancer with a warrior's spirit. He is the real fighter, the rest of us are just small-timers. He is five years old and we all love him. The show will take place in Globe, Arizona on June 26th on Highway 60 next to Fry's Food and Drug Store.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Jeff: Train hard and be ready for lots of hot chicks to be all over you. (Laughs) Never give up and swing for the fences, you never know when you'll knock out a champ. I have two state records for knocking two opponents out with the first punch I threw. Eddie Arizmendi and Josh Drake were my victims.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Jeff: The teaching of my students and training partners. I love when others can learn from my experiences.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Jeff: I like taking my kids to Chuck E. Cheese's - they are what matters.
Darrick: If you were stranded in the middle of a jungle with only three items, what would they be?
Jeff: I would have a machete for obvious reasons, a picture of my kids in case I was about to die so that I could fully remember them, and a backpack to collect items which may provide helpful for my survival.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Jeff: I love to make a difference - and that is what I will do with this upcoming event on the 26th.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Jeff: My earliest memory is chasing my older brother around the neighborhood trying to kill him because he beat me at baseball and refused to give me a rematch. I ended up in the emergency room with twenty-eight stitches in my upper thigh from when I slid down a hill after him and was impaled by a piece of rebar. It was a few inches away from taking my package out of the equation. Close call!
