10 Questions With Kyle Dietz (by Darrick Patrick)
Kyle Dietz is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Extreme Challenge and Courage Fighting Championships. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Charlie Valencia in World Extreme Cagefighting at WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber 2 on June 7th, 2009.
Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
Kyle: I used to wrestle back in the day and I loved it. Then I started watching boxing all of the time and was getting interested in that too. I grew up with my wrestling coach living next door and he kind of talked smack about how I couldn't do it. So, I got with him and some friends and started training. Now, it's my job! (Laughs)
Darrick: Who is someone that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Kyle: My father - he is such a good person and my best friend. From day one, he had my back in anything I wanted to do or learn about. I look up to him so much. You couldn't ever ask for a better dad.
Darrick: In your experience so far, what brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Kyle: Getting my hand raised at the end of a fight.
Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Charlie Valencia on June 7th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?
Kyle: It's going to be a war. He's been around the sport for a long time and has fought the best. I train with some of the best though, so he's going to have his hands full. I don't plan on stopping until the fight is over and I don't think it will make it out of the first round. I'm ready to show the WEC fans that I belong in there. So come June 7th, keep your eyes open because it's going to be fast!
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Kyle: I basically respect all fighters because it takes a lot to just get in that cage. In particular though, I really respect Spencer Fisher due to the fact that he has taken me under his wing since the very beginning and believed in me when others didn't.
Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
Kyle: Don't party, train hard, and use your heart.
Darrick: Outside of mixed martial arts, what are your other interests?
Kyle: Hanging out with my daughter Ava, watching movies, art, and music.
Darrick: What moment in your life have you been proudest of so far?
Kyle: The day that I became a father, nothing is better than that.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Kyle: I drink a lot of coffee.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Kyle: Jumping in a pool when I didn't know how to swim! (Laughs) Thankfully my grandma saved me.
