10 Questions With Al Buck (by Darrick Patrick)

Al "Mr. Big" Buck is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as World Cagefighting Alliance, Ring Of Combat, Cage Fury Fighting Championships, Reality Fighting, Midwest Shootfighting, and Extreme Challenge. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Pat Audinwood in American Steel Cage Fighting at ASC 1 on July 31st, 2009.

Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Al: Growing up in a bad neighborhood and going to bad schools that were filled with trouble is what initially led me on this path. I never ran towards trouble, but it always found me. I was in at least one or two fights per week as a kid. I found a Judo Club at the age of thirteen and I loved it, so I began competing. I wanted to be a professional athlete for a living and being in Judo didn't really pay, so I eventually started boxing. I noticed an advertisement in a magazine looking for no holds barred fighters, answered that back, and that started my mixed martial arts career.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Al: If mixed martial arts is what you choose to do, do it with all of your heart. Don't half-ass anything in this sport because it won't work.

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against Pat Audinwood on July 31st. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Al: I'm excited to face an undefeated kid in this next one. It's always a notch on your belt to take out an undefeated gamer.

Darrick: For those who aren't familiar with The Evo Fight Club, what are the details with that?

Al: The Evo Fight Club is a true fight club. Eighty percent of our guys are fighters or are training to be fighters. We are located in New Jersey and there is a really detailed description on what we're about over at http://www.evofightclub.com if you would like to read up on any furthur information about Evo.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Al: Fedor Emelianenko and Georges St-Pierre are the main two because they are the best fighters in the world and they don't talk trash. I also like Rampage Jackson, he is very well-rounded and talks smack about it. I'm a big fan of anybody that has the balls to step in the cage though.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Al: The fan's reaction to what I do is the most fulfilling part for me.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Al: Family, family...and family.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Al: I used to be a bounty hunter.

Darrick: If you were stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of your life, what three items would you take in with you besides food and water?

Al: I would take in my family and a baseball bat so that I could beat myself over the head with it when they drive me crazy. (Laughs) And maybe some good porn DVDs.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Al: I really don't remember too much from the past since I get hit in the head for a living.
