10 Questions With Jacob McClintock (by Darrick Patrick)
Jacob "Tick-Tock" McClintock is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Ultimate Warrior Challenge, Total Combat, Rage In The Cage, FightForce, MTX Audio Fight Night, and Proving Grounds. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Jim Wallhead in the first round of the second season welterweight tournament of Bellator Fighting Championships at BFC 15 on April 22nd, 2010.
Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?
Jacob: Well, I started out watching the old UFC events with my dad and ever since then I was hooked. It wasn't until I was thirteen years old that I really got into MMA. I had moved to Tempe, Arizona and started with Arizona Combat. Ever since then I've been training and it has been my life.
Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Jacob: Take it one day at a time. Everyone progresses at their own pace and it is a hard sport. You are always injured and beat up, so be prepared for that. It is important that you are consistently humble and learn from everyone or you will never get to be a champion.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Jacob: Gegard Mousasi is young and smashes everybody with ease. I would love to be on his level one day. Another person is Fedor Emelianenko and I think you can figure out why I respect him. (Laughs) He is Fedor! Really though, I respect anyone who gets in the cage. You have to have some balls to be involved in this sport, so anyone game enough to get in the cage and scrap has my respect.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Jim Wallhead on April 22nd. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?
Jacob: It should be a good fight. Jim is tough and we're both hungry, so it should make for an exciting war. I can't wait.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Jacob: Winning and having people respect you for what you do. It also makes me happy that I am able to support my family.
Darrick: Where could you possibly see the future of the sport ten years from now?
Jacob: It's hard to tell, no one really knows. It has grown so fast in the last few years that there is no telling where this sport can go.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Jacob: I love spending time at the sand dunes and doing stuff like that. I always wanted to be a race car driver, so I love racing around in anything fast. I also enjoy just hanging out with my family - family is very important to me.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Jacob: I get more nervous for my friend's fights than I have for all of my fights combined. (Laughs) It's kind of weird.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Jacob: I have a bad memory. (Laughs) I don't really remember too far back.
Darrick: If you had three wishes, what would they be?
Jacob: The only wish that I would go for is to be rich. I have everything else that I need with my beautiful family. We're all healthy and I have nothing else that I could want other than to be wealthy.
