10 Questions With Cale Yarbrough (by Darrick Patrick)

Cale "Aquaman" Yarbrough is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, King Of The Cage, Wild Bill's Fight Night, International Sport Combat Federation, Clash Of The Kings, and Sin City Fight Club. He was also featured on the seventh season of the television show The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs. Team Forrest. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Josh Schockman at Strikeforce: Nashville on April 17th, 2010.

Darrick: How did you end up competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Cale: I've been involved with sports my whole life. Once high school was over, I needed something and I knew joining a college intramural team wouldn't cut it. I had seen a few UFC events and thought it was great, so I found a gym near my house and went to try it out.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Cale: If you really want to do it, stick with it. You're going to want to quit because the training is rough and it's easy to get frustrated. The best advice I can give is to stay in the gym and try to improve every day.

Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?

Cale: Wanderlei Silva because the guy has fought the best in the world. What I admire most about him though is that in every fight he looks to finish. A lot of guys will play it safe and try to ride out a decision, but Wand always shows a ton of heart and respect that a lot.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Josh Schockman on April 17th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Cale: I'm really excited. It feels right. I've always thought that Strikeforce puts on great events and always thought it would be really cool to fight for them. So, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Cale: I fight because I love the feeling I get after winning.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Cale: My father is the strongest influence to come to mind. He is the hardest working man I know. I've had a lot of great influences in my life though. I have had a lot of men with strong faith and character help influence me and make me what I am today. I'm thankful and blessed for every one of them.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Cale: I don't read enough and I wish that I did. I like to go to Borders and walk around looking at all of the stuff I should be reading. Every once in awhile, I'll actually finish a book and I feel really accomplished.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Cale: I'm getting a nose job this summer.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Cale: Hmmm...I really don't remember too far back.

Darrick: If you were stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of your life, what three items would you take in with you besides food and water?

Cale: A MacBook Pro with an unlimited battery supply, any female (for procreational purposes), and Rock Band with band members included. The procreation female doesn't count.
