10 Questions With Nah-shon Burrell (by Darrick Patrick)

Nah-shon "The Rock-n-Rolla" Burrell is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Strikeforce, Cage Fury Fighting Championships, Asylum Fight League, Xtreme Caged Combat, and Jake the Snake Promotions. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Lukasz Les at Strikeforce Challengers: Gurgel vs. Duarte on August 12th, 2011.

Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Nah-shon: After I graduated high school, I planned to go to college for business management but my GPA was too low to go to the school I wanted. I didn't want to wait and go through the whole process of getting in, so I started searching for another path to pursue. I was sitting at home one day and caught an episode of UFC Unleashed. Ever since then I was hooked. I started looking for gyms to train in and the rest is history.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Nah-shon: You can't get into this sport and half-ass it. Train hard for every fight. I learned that the hard way.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Nah-shon: I'm a big fan of Anderson Silva. He's actually the person who got me into the sport after watching one of his fights. I like Rampage because I think our fighting styles are about ninety-five percent similar. Also, Junior dos Santos and Jose Aldo.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Lukasz Les on August 12th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Nah-shon: He's a solid opponent and has really good Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I am prepared though, so I'm going to make it a good fight.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Nah-shon: I love the fact that it's one-on-one. If you lose, you can't blame anyone else. I don't know... (Laughs) I just love to fight.

Darrick: Who is someone that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Nah-shon: My mom, she's very strong and she has taught me everything.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Nah-shon: Other than mixed martial arts, I really enjoy cooking.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Nah-shon: My black, yellow, and red Big Wheel being stolen when I was younger.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Nah-shon: I would like to be a chef.

Darrick: If you had 24 hours left to live, how would you spend that time?

Nah-shon: I don't know, I'd act a fool. There'd definitely be fast driving and a lot of partying. (Laughs)
