10 Questions With Cathal Pendred (by Darrick Patrick)

Cathal "The Punisher" Pendred is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, On Top Promotions, Cage Contender, Olympian MMA Championships, TuffNut Promotions, K.O., Strabane Fight Team Fight Night, and Immortal Fighting Championship. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against David Bielkheden in Cage Warriors Fighting Championship at CWFC 47 on May 2nd, 2012.

Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Cathal: I have always liked martial arts. As a kid, I loved the movies. I tried my hand at nearly every kind available to me, although I never found one that could keep my interest. I started watching the UFC on TV when I was around sixteen years old. When I was ninteen, I was living in San Diego and I tried a MMA class out at a nearby gym. I finally found something that kept my interest and I haven't looked back since.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Cathal: My parents. Each in their own very different ways.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Cathal: Just get to training. It's no secret that the more time you spend training, the better you become. Also, make sure you enjoy it. If you don't, then what's the point?

Darrick: Your next scheduled fight is against David Bielkheden on May 2nd. What are your thoughts about this upcoming match?

Cathal: I think it's a great opportunity for me to show people that I'm a world class fighter. I'm fighting in my hometown too, so I'm really excited about that.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Cathal: I just love the lifestyle in general, but the main element that drew me to MMA is that it's the purest form of competition. I just love to compete. I was born to do it.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Cathal: I highly respect any and all of the world champions. You don't get there by fluke. They committed their all and sacrificed everything they had to get there.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Cathal: I like to watch rugby, seeing as how I used to play it. I'm also a movie buff and a bit of a closet sci-fi geek too.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Cathal: I think it was when I saw snow for the first time. I was probably one or two years old.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Cathal: I'm an American citizen.

Darrick: If you had superpowers, what would they be?

Cathal: Invisibility, just because of the mischief I could get into. I also wouldn't mind having the ability to fly. How cool would that be? I'd never have to sit in traffic again.
