Wii Fit Sales Officially Surpass Halo 3 in U.S.
NPD Group confirms Nintendo's exercise title has outsold Bungie's 360 shooter.
The February NPD numbers hit earlier this week, and they once again showed Wii Fit leading in software sales. But it was a particularly significant month for Wii Fit for another reason: The NPD Group has confirmed to Kotaku that sales of Wii Fit hit 6 million in the U.S., surpassing the 5.9 million lifetime sales of Halo 3.
Okay, so the significance is really mostly symbolic -- here is Nintendo's peculiar exercise game surprisingly overcoming Microsoft's traditional Xbox shooter powerhouse. But the nature of Wii Fit's "victory" is also really quite impressive; consider that Wii Fit hit retail eight months later than Halo 3, and at $90, costs thirty bucks more.
Now, let's just hope the 6 million people in the U.S. who own this thing are actually putting it to good use. That'd be a whole lot of Balance Boards collecting dust, otherwise...
