The annual Game Developer's Conference is a nexus for industry education, trends and business, and rarely a venue for glitzy product announcements and big reveals common at expos like E3. That being said, there have been exceptions throughout the years, and 2010 happens to be one of them. Last week, Sony debuted its PlayStation 3 motion controller and sub-controller at the event, drawing the irk of Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. Since the new PlayStation device, dubbed "Move," bears an unavoidable resemblance to the Nintendo Wii controller that inspired it, Fils-Aime commented that "I think we would have been embarrassed to do what our competitors are currently doing." Going off the suggestion that Nintendo's successor to the Wii will take advantage of the growing HD trend; Fils-Aime went on to say, "For us, high definition by itself is not the next frontier. We need to provide a whole new compelling experience in our next generation." The mantra at Nintendo seems to place greater value at innovation rather than trend-chasing, which will be a welcome notion among gamers.
