At CES today, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer revealed that the Xbox 360 console has now reached 50 million sold worldwide, which is already more than double what the original Xbox console sold. Microsoft labeled 2010 as the best year in Xbox history, driven in the second half by six consecutive months as the best-selling console in North America and by a blockbuster Kinect launch.
In fact, Kinect has completely outstripped expectations. Microsoft had been anticipating sales of 5 million units by the end of the holiday, and Ballmer confirmed that the company has already sold 8 million Kinect sensors worldwide. Microsoft achieved this feat in 60 days after launch.
Furthermore, from the online perspective, Microsoft boasted about its successful Xbox Live service, which now has 30 million active members across the globe. The company said that a new member joins every two seconds.
